He also wrote a widely read column on movies for the magazine Nation from 1942 to 1948. Not only a critic, Agee also wrote movie scripts, but none of his original scripts were ever filmed.

While Bond was growing up, black schools were greatly underfunded. The teachers were poorly prepared and poorly supported. Average education spending for black students was considerably less than half of the amount provided for white students. In addition, black schools focused more on vocational training. In general, whites in the United States believed that black Americans were intellectually inferior. Therefore, offering blacks more academic school programs seemed unnecessary. At an early age Bond began showing he was gifted in academics.

Early influences Arthur Altmeyer was born in May 1891 to John Altmeyer and Carrie Smith Altmeyer in the small town of De Pere, Wisconsin, not far from Green Bay.
